Treatment and Quality of Life of Chronic Kidney Patients

While developing A Curva e O Caminho (2008), André François learned stories of chronic kidney patients who needed to move three times a week or move to a larger city to undergo hemodialysis.

As he got deeper into the subject, the photographer got to know peritoneal dialysis, which, although it can be done at home, is still not widespread. In the work, André tells the story of people who adhered to the treatment and were able to continue life inside their homes, while waiting for the transplant.

The book wants to contribute to the dissemination of this treatment, in addition to encouraging organ donation. In 2009, André was a finalist for the Conrado Wessel Art Foundation award, in the category Photo Essay Published with the publication.
