A Curva e O Caminho

Access to Healthcare in Brazil

After finishing the book Caring (2006), André François realized the importance of documenting the sagas of people in search of access to health in the country. In this work, the photographer reveals inspiring stories that show the challenges of doing health in a country as vast as Brazil.

The Unified Health System (SUS) provides that every citizen has the right to any health treatment, free of charge. In practice, however, many people need to leave their homes in search of care in other cities and even other states.

In 2008, the book was awarded by the Conrado Wessel Foundation for Art in the Published Photographic Essay category and had images selected for the Pirelli / Masp Photography Collection.
